Just 10.32 sq km off Panay's northwest tip, Boracay grew from a 1970s backpacker secret into one of Asia's most awarded beach destinations. Closed to tourists for six months in 2018 for environmental rehabilitation, it reopened with carrying-capacity limits, beach regulations, and managed accredited tourism.
