Chile's largest island after Tierra del Fuego's Isla Grande and the heart of Chilote culture, blending Huilliche and Spanish heritage. Sixteen of its Jesuit-built wooden churches are UNESCO-listed; the island is also a GIAHS agricultural heritage site for its native potatoes.
