Vanua Levu ('Big Land') is wilder and less touristed than Viti Levu: 180 km of volcanic ridges, copra plantations and reef-fringed bays. Labasa anchors the Indo-Fijian sugar north; Savusavu — 'the hidden paradise of Fiji' — draws divers and yachties to its hot springs and marine reserve. Natewa Bay shelters dolphins and rare endemic birds.
